Students’ perceptions of interprofessional collaboration on the care of diabetes: A qualitative study

Interprofessional education can promote healthcare professionals' competence to work in interprofessional collaboration, which is essential for the quality and safety of care. An approach particularly important complex, chronic diseases like diabetes. This qualitative study evaluated changes medical nursing students' perceptions induced by a novel course on diabetes care with practical elements. Data from focus-group interviews 30 students before after were analyzed using inductive deductive content analysis. The students’ illustrated as Elements Collaborative Care (e.g. Quality professional relationship) Collaboration Importance communication Valuation collaboration). post-course added one subcategory (Need resources) pre-course perceptions, there was improvement ten areas self-perceived performing or understanding collaboration improved confidence patients diabetes, their changed towards more patient-centred holistic perspective. findings support further implementation IPE elements future health professionals’ education.
